Cheesy Herb Biscuits with Sage Sausage Gravy
Flavorful biscuits and a savory sausage gravy pair up to bring you a great way to start the day! This country breakfast staple is infused with herbs for a fresh take on a classic favorite. Especially delicious served with eggs of any style or hashbrowns.
Ingredients
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/3 cup oil
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon fresh oregano, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, finely chopped
- 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese
- 2 pounds unseasoned fresh ground pork
- 4 tablespoons fresh sage, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 2 cups milk
- 4 tablespoons flour

Instructions
- Heat oven 475 degrees (F).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine dry ingredients until mixed well.
- Pour oil and milk into a measuring cup, do not stir. Add to dry ingredients and stir with a fork until mixture cleans side of bowl. Mix in fresh herbs and shredded cheese.
- Smooth by kneading dough ten times.
- Place dough on a piece of wax paper, press out to 1/2 inch thickness.
- Cut with an un-floured biscuit cutter, then place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden.
- Place sausage in a large skillet. Add fresh sage and other seasonings. Cook until browned, stirring to combine seasonings with meat.
- Meanwhile, place flour in a bowl. Slowly whisk in milk, until thoroughly mixed.
- Place mixture in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until smooth and the desired thickness is reached.
- Add thickened flour and milk mixture to seasoned browned sausage and stir until mixed.
- Serve gravy over top of biscuits split in half, and enjoy!
