Basil Butter
This quick and easy herb butter is as delicious when spread on hot rolls or fresh biscuits as when it is stirred into steaming pasta or warm white rice. Top with a chiffonade of fresh basil for extra flavor.
Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
- ½ cup finely chopped basil leaves
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- ½ teaspoon grated lemon zest
- Kosher salt
- Ground white pepper
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the butter, basil, garlic, lemon zest, ½ teaspoon white pepper and mash with a spoon until well combined.
- Use plastic wrap to shape the basil butter into a log, tightening the ends as if it were a sausage. Refrigerate until very firm.
- Slice into ¼ inch thick coins and melt over grilled chicken, pork or fish fillets.
Quick Notes
Can also be used with vegetables. The butter will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for up to 1 month. This recipe can be easily doubled.
